Travel Plans are used as a tool to encourage a modal shift from the private car to active and sustainable travel. A Travel Plan will set out measures to minimise car trips from a development and to maximise other forms of active and sustainable travel. Travel Plans usually form part of a planning application designed to reduce the vehicular impact of a development on the highway network.  

We are also able to assist our clients once their development is operational by performing the role of Travel Plan Co-ordinator, which can be a requirement of a planning consent, and which requires on-going commitment from a developer or occupier.

From the preparation of a tailored questionnaire to establish the travel patterns of a development, to the subsequent analysis and presentation of the results in a report for review by the Local Planning or Highway Authority, we are here to assist you.  

We take into account vehicle congestion, air quality, noise, safety and infrastructure requirements. We compare between existing, potential and proposed development traffic flow.

These transport scenarios can be predicted using a combination of Census data and also the nationally accepted database of traffic surveys (TRICS).

In some cases, a Travel Plan will be supported with a Transport Statement or Transport Assessment, according to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). Here at Fairfield Associates we can produce these reports on behalf of developers to assist the decision makers to determine if the proposal is in keeping with the relevant planning policy framework and transport strategy.
